Mike gives relevant history without going so deep that it would only be interesting to a marque expert. His range of suggestions is terrific. Great easy fast read. Very informative without getting bogged down in infinite details. Just enough info to keep me interested but not so much I slip into a coma.
Another plus is that the author has owned several of the cars listed in the book. He provides a lot of insight on the ownership of those cars. For instance one of the cars is a bit small for his 6' 1" height so it wasn't a comfortable drive. I'm also 6" 1" tall so I had to take that car off my bucket list. I just saved a ton of money by reading this book.
I've read several books by this author and found them all very interesting, entertaining, and well worth the read.
Fun, easy read, with some interesting cars to ponder.
Strongly recommend this book to anyone trying to decide which classic car to purchase.

An interesting book. But I thought that most of his choices in cars was about what most folks would choose.
As someone who is dipping a toe into the self-publishing waters myself, I read Mike's book from two perspectives. First was an enthusiast who has a life-long interest in affordable classics. From that perspective, the book succeeds very well as Mike has profiled a cross section of affordable, and in some cases, undervalued classics. I purchased the version of the book to read on my PC and it reads and presents well.
From the perspective of a magazine editor as well as from the perspective of a self-publishing, I learned some things that will help me format my first book. From the publisher perspective I think that photos are essential but they should be bigger in the presentation. And while shots taken at car shows work within the framework of the book, if Mike publishes a second edition, he should work to get better photos with less cluttered backgrounds. With that being said, this is probably an issue that won't bother most of the purchasers of the book but as a suggestion to Mike to make his next book even better.
The book was informative and well worth reading. It provides a quick bit on knowledge about some wonderful cars. I really enjoyed Chapter 21 on the Austin-Healy 3000. I owed one when I was in college, it brought back some great memories.
